Prevalence
US Cases: 16,000 - 70,000 [Cheeti 2020], but this is unsubstantiated and includes dermatomyositis, which reports the same prevalence and therefore double counts this number.
Typical Age of onset
Typically, polymyositis occurs after age 20. But it most commonly affects individuals between the ages of 31 and 60.

Inflammation of muscles
Muscle weakness in muscles of trunk (hips, thighs, shoulders, upper arms, and neck)
Difficulty climbing stairs
Difficulty lifting arms
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Fever
Weight loss
Joint pain
