Cutaneous mastocytosis
Evidence: Unconfirmed
Names
Cutaneous mastocytosis
Description
Cutaneous mastocytosis is caused when too many mast cells accumulate in the skin. It is not an autoimmune disease, but a disease of the immune system, specifically mast cells. Mast cells transport histamine, which is involved in allergic responses.
When mastocytosis is not limited to the skin, it is called systemic mastocytosis, and is a more severe form of the disease.
